As part of the FORGER project, in collaboration with the European Forest Genetic Resources Programme (EUFORGEN), a training workshop on FGR inventories and databases was organized in Zagreb, Croatia on 25-27 March 2014.Forest in Finland, close to Helsinki, where the first similar workshop was organized.

The workshop targeted the national focal points of the European Information System on Forest Genetic Resources (EUFGIS) and its main objective was to update the skills of the focal points in using EUFGIS, including the new search engine which provides a link to the Geo-Referenced Database on Genetic Diversity (GD2). The EUFGIS-GD2 search engine was developed as part of the FORGER project.

In addition, the workshop participants discussed the uses of EUFGIS and other databases, and how FGR inventories in Europe could be further improved. It builds on the work of the group which has been carried out since 2007, and which has been meeting regularly at similar events, such as the workshop on conservation and monitoring of forest genetic resources in Järvenpää.
